Hypertension Australia Winter School 2026

The Early to Mid-Career Researcher Committee is excited to invite you to the Hypertension Australia Winter School 2026.

The theme of this year’s Winter School is Communicating Science for a Layperson Audience. The event will feature a keynote speaker session from three prominent science communicators and a curated showcase of research conducted by our early and mid-career researchers in the field of hypertension and cardiovascular health.

Program outline

Session 1: Keynote Speaker session: 

Hear from a panel of prominent science communicators sharing their expertise and insights on science communication, followed by an interactive Q&A session:

  • Dr Shane Huntington OAM – Dr Huntington a host of ‘Einstein A Go-Go’ radio show, CEO of Australian Society for Medical Research, Founder of The Innovation Group Pty Ltd and a recipient of the Order of Australia medal for his services to science communication. Originally a physicist by trade, Dr Huntington has always been driven by his strong passion for sharing science with the public, and now has extensive experience in science communication.
  • Professor Caroline Finch AO – Professor Finch is a Vice-Chancellor’s Professorial Research Fellow at Edith Cowan University and is ranked as one of the 10 most highly published injury researchers and most influential sports medicine researchers internationally. Professor Finch was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia for her distinguished service to sports medicine, is Editor-in-Chief  BMJ Injury Prevention and is a mentor of the Superstars of STEM program. 
  • Dr Jocelyne Mulangala – Dr Mulangala is a graduate of the Superstars of STEM program. Dr Mulangala works at the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences as Events Manager where she champions excellence in health and medical research and empowers researchers to create real-world impact with their research.

Session 2: EMCR Presentation Session:

  • We are inviting early and mid-career researchers to present your work! These presentations are an opportunity to share your research on a national stage, demonstrate how science communication is integrated into the research we do and receive feedback from our esteemed keynote speakers.
